February’s book

Hi there, Celia here with my mini book for February.

I decided to recreate the faux leather book I made for Hochanda. I painted the cover in DecoArt raw umber, then used Seth Apter’s technique of mono printing different colours with a piece of canvas paper. I used various browns and black, printing repeatedly to get a nice aged, dirty look.
I did this on the inside cover too. I painted the inside of the spine in gold, to tie in with our ‘golden’ theme for the month. Then I cut some pages and sewed them onto the spine. It doesn’t matter about making the outside stitching pretty as this will be covered over. The pages don’t completely fill the book, but I think I’ll put in some concertina pages when there’s a word I particularly like!

I cut a piece of calico to go over the spine and painted it black.
Then I coated this liberally in DecouPage glue and stuck it on the outside of the spine. You need to stretch it on a bit and open and close the book a bit to get the position right.
Finally I finished off the inside of the cover with some Stamperia paper. I clipped the inside pages together and let it dry.

For the embellishments, I found a lock and key from the Tando minis and covered them with embossing powder. The minis are made from thin card so there’s enough room in the tower to store the book. I had to change my other book with two hearts on it as it didn’t fit! Then I used an embossing pen to randomly blob round the edges of the book and embossed these with Aged Gold embossing powder.
For the first entry and to tie in with the ‘golden’ theme, I made a triple embossed page in gold, shamelessly copying Dee’s style as I love it so much!

Thanks for stopping by!

Celia x
